Any ideas for an ample sweater?

I have now joined 2 things-this pinwheel sweater knit along and a sock kit swap. So far, the pinwheel sweater is coming along, slowly but surely. Is there anyone out there who is making it larger sized and has some idea of where they are putting the sleeves? On the ample knitters list, there is one lady who is thinking about using Row 40 as her starting point. But I don't know how big she needs hers. I usually need about a 52" chest, and that includes a bit of ease. Any ideas? Experience with it? Let me know.....

Hi Deb, I think the measurement for the sleeves would involve your BACK measurement for placement on the circle for the sleeves. Right? Maybe the designer could be asked what the total measurement for chest is on the women's version of her pattern? The adjustment for chest size might be additional rows beyond the sleeves to cover an ample chest. Let me know what you think of my thought process here okay? *smile*

Hey Rhonda! What I was wondering was the ideal measurement- are we talking midpit to midpit (okay- that sounds gauche- but you know what I mean) or is there some ease required with that? Or is there a different measurement I should use?

Sounds like a good question for Shelley Mackle. What do think, Anny?

Good idea Rhonda! Deb, Shelley Mackie (the designer) e-mailed me and offered her e-mail address to anyone with questions about the pattern.

Hopefully she'll have more insight than I (or at least have some experience with the pattern) ;0)

Here's her e-mail address:

Hi
The sample adult sweater is 22 1/2" across the back between the sleeves. When you decide what you want for width across the back for your measurement, you could add 3 more stitches between the increases for each 2 " extra width across the back. The same formula can be used to make it smaller. if that doesn't make sense just email me. Please realize this is in theory as I haven't knit a bigger one yet.

I will reword that last post. You could work (increase one row, knit the next) until you have 3 more stitches in each section for each extra 2" of width you want for the back. The way I said it before sounds like you need to add stitches. Hope that makes better sense

I am thinking that I might be getting it- if you wish to add 2", you are looking at 6 rows to add. And 12 rows for 4" extra, and so on. So- Shelley- hpw wide is the circle when it is laid flat on the adult sweater? I want to know how much overlap, since if I am adding 6 to 12 rows on the back, I must also add as many on the front, right?

I should add that I am at the point of 25 stitches between each increase-and it is about 19 inches across. When I get to the 30 stitches between increases point, I will measure and report, so anyone who is making it out of the 127 Print will have some idea of size.
